    • After completing the ILV, students will be able to analyze common changes of state and process types (isobaric, isochoric, isothermal, adiabatic, polytropic), calculate relevant thermodynamic quantities and assess reversibility and irreversibility.

    • After completing the ILV, students will be able to calculate steady-state heat conduction in simple geometries using Fourier's law and the thermal resistance model (e.g. flat wall, cylinder; multi-layered components) and evaluate results based on plausibility.

    • After completing the ILV, students will be able to calculate simple cyclic processes (e.g. heat engines, chillers, heat pumps), critically evaluate parameters (e.g. efficiency, quality factor) and work out the differences and similarities between Carnot, Rankine, Otto and diesel processes; they will be able to critically examine the effects of assumptions and approximations in model calculations.
