    During the studies

For over 10 years, Architecture - Green Building has been characterized by a consistent focus on circular building. Numerous research projects within the degree program guarantee that our research-led teaching is always up to date. In design, the core competence of architecture, sustainability is the order of the day. Regenerative building materials are used throughout, with a focus on wood and clay. Expertise in life cycle assessment, certification and BIM provide data and facts to prevent greenwashing. BIM: architecture meets craftsmanship and can be "grasped" and experienced as a team. One special feature is the lecture Integral Planning: architecture and civil engineering students work together to develop circular projects, accompanied by experts from the fields of transport, infrastructure, statics, building physics, building services and construction management. Our lecturers are all experienced architects from renowned architectural firms such as Nonconform, Querkraft, Einszueins, GernerGerner Plus and Superwien, who directly contribute their practical experience and networks.

The lectures of our degree program take place in building A B C D designed by Delugan Meissl. Since summer 2024, architecture students have had access to the [Bau]Kasten, a 200 m2 classroom for drawing with a model-making workshop, providing plenty of space for collaborative creative work. Surrounded by Vienna's last major urban development areas, such as Altes Landgut, Oberlaa and Rothneusiedl, the location enables students to play an active role in neighborhood development - university meets city.

The degree program Architecture - Green Building is internationally well connected. Excursions abroad (Madrid, Copenhagen, Valencia, Athens, Morocco, etc.) broaden horizons and with sus°cool, an International Summer School taking place for the first time in 2025, we bring students from all over the world to us to develop pioneering architectural concepts and to build together. Through cooperation with universities and universities of applied sciences in Switzerland, Spain and the entire Erasmus region, we offer the opportunity to spend a semester abroad and promote international internships. The Master's degree program Architecture - Green Building features personal supervision in small groups (max. 25 students), efficient timetables and a degree in two years. The excellent reputation and strong network of the degree program guarantee a sound education and diverse career opportunities. This means that architects who graduate from our program make a significant contribution to a sustainably built environment.

The Master's degree program Architecture - Green Building is interdisciplinary and practice-oriented. It provides a holistic understanding of circular solutions in all phases of design and planning. The following skills are taught:

    • Design and planning expertise: from existing buildings, residential construction and public building tasks to urban planning solutions and neighborhood development
    • Social and societal aspects of architecture: from social space analysis and participatory processes to research and development
    • Innovative building materials: integrated systems from timber (modular) construction to clay construction and regenerative insulation materials
    • Design|Build: teaching craftsmanship skills and teamwork through collaborative implementation of small construction tasks
    • Sustainability strategies: from resource conservation, recycling and deconstructability to life cycle assessments, certification and EPDs
    • Integral planning: together with civil engineers, integrated solutions are developed from infrastructure and energy planning to statics, building physics and building technology
    • Construction processes: from the legal basis to BIM systems and facility management, all processes involved in construction are examined

    Learning landscapes

The Architecture - Green Building lectures take place in the main building of Hochschule Campus Wien, designed by Delugan Meissl. New learning landscapes are currently being created there, where students can work on projects together. The old canteen courtyard is a popular place to spend time and is also used for celebrations and parties.

    [Bau]Kasten workshop

The [Bau]Kasten was finally completed in summer 2024! With a usable area of 200 m2, it offers architecture students plenty of space for learning, working, experimenting and discussing. The use of recyclable materials and the fact that the building can be completely dismantled were central to its construction.

The [Bau]Kasten workshop - building together

The [Bau]Kasten workshop was built by the start-up company DataB.
It consists of a plug-in system made of cross-laminated timber panels with wood fiber insulation, which was manufactured in modules and assembled by crane in a very short construction time. The students had the opportunity to be present during the assembly of the individual parts and the installation of the insulation and to be actively involved in the construction of their workshop.

    Model making workshop

During the studies of Architecture - Green Building, we attach great importance to working and presentation models. The model making workshop is currently being relocated to the [Bau]Kasten workshop, it will be better equipped and new equipment, such as an additional laser cutter, will be purchased.

    Integral planning

In "Integral Planning", architecture students work closely with civil engineering students for a year. A design is developed in groups, which then passes through all areas of the profession, from traffic and infrastructure, statics, building physics and building services to construction management. This practice-oriented lecture optimally prepares students for professional life.

    Design|Build projects

Since the winter semester 2024, two innovative lectures have enriched the curriculum: the Design|Build Studio and Design|Build Hands-on. These formats enable a direct, tangible engagement with architecture through manual work with the material itself. The focus is on experiencing and creating in a team - a practice that unleashes unexpected potential and opens up new perspectives through joint action.
