Early Childhood Education and Care

Part-time and dual

Early Childhood Education and Care

Primary educational institutions are the first non-family, institutional places of education in a child's life. They lay the foundation for a successful educational and professional career and make a significant contribution to an inclusive, democratic society. Professionally trained early childhood education and care professionals are needed to fulfill this important task. During the studies, you will learn how to accompany and support children in their development as an early childhood education and care professional. The dual study program means that part of your training takes place at the university and the other part at an early childhood education and care institution.

In cooperation with

Further study program

Prospective students who have a university entrance qualification (e.g. secondary school leaving certificate) or an equivalent qualification are eligible for the Bachelor's degree program Early Childhood Education and Care.

    During the studies

The Bachelor's program (Bachelor Professional) Early Childhood Education and Care at Hochschule Campus Wien is characterized by a close connection between theory and practice and prepares you for your professional activity as an early childhood education and care professional according to the latest state of research.

The study program was developed in cooperation with experts from science and practice. We are in regular contact with early childhood education and care institutions as well as national and international training centers and universities. Our cooperation partners for the practical training are large Viennese provider organizations for crèches, nursery schools and day homes.

Cooperation with KIWI - Kinder in Wien (Children in Vienna)

KIWI - Kinder in Wien is the non-university educational institution with which we maintain an extended cooperation (see FHG §9 Abs4), as well as a cooperation partner for the practical training. KIWI currently supervises around 7,800 children at 92 locations (crèches, nursery schools, day homes, age-extended and open groups, special focus rooms), making it one of the largest private kindergarten and day home providers in Vienna. At the heart of the KIWI - Kinder in Wien mission statement are the rights of children as defined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; pluralism of values and openness to different lifestyles and cultures; self-determination and a sense of responsibility in dealing with people and the environment; verifiable quality standards and their continuous implementation. The central KIWI - Kinder in Wien guiding principle "Growing together in joy" expresses the goal of offering children the best possible educational opportunities so that they can freely develop their social and individual talents, as well as the willingness of employees themselves to grow and learn throughout their lives.

At a time when the growing need for high-quality childcare facilities is being discussed, it is all the more important to promote the academization of the professional field in conjunction with early childhood education and care research. Hochschule Campus Wien is the first university to offer a complete Bachelor's program (Bachelor Professional) for basic professional qualification in early childhood education and care.

The focus of the program covers four central areas of competence in the discipline, which are highly relevant in everyday pedagogical practice:

    • Competence to act: includes all aspects of the professional education, supervision and upbringing of children. In order to be able to accompany and shape their learning processes, you combine the learning of practical activities with scientific principles and an open attitude. This also includes aesthetic education (music, design and movement).
    • Cooperation competence: gives you the opportunity to competently develop and shape cooperation with educational partners in practice. You will establish and deepen cooperative relationships with parents, institutions and external specialists in terms of interdisciplinarity and a support system.
    • Reflection skills and acquisition of psychodynamic concepts: this will help you to understand your own actions in different contexts. At the same time, it enriches your view of the actions of others (children, families, colleagues). Impulses on inclusion and diversity will expand your pedagogical attitude.
    • Research skills: play a central role in being able to contribute to social development in your professional field. To this end, you will learn scientific methods and how to apply them in your professional field. Towards the end of your studies, you will write a Bachelor's thesis, for which you will receive comprehensive support and whose topics you will select according to your professional focus.

From the 6th semester onwards, you have the opportunity to set your own focus through electives such as "Fundamentals of Occupational Therapy and Logopedics" and "Multilingual and Translingual Living Environments of Children".
