    During the studies

The Hochschule Campus Wien has positioned itself early on in the German-speaking world with academic education in the field of risk, safety and security management and therefore has a strong Austrian and international network in business and research. As a founding member of the Cooperation Network of Risk, Safety and Security Studies (CONRIS), the Hochschule Campus Wien, together with universities and universities of applied sciences from all over Europe, promotes the further development of risk, safety and security management and facilitates international knowledge exchange for students in the form of courses and semesters abroad.

Thanks to our cooperations with international organizations, ministries, authorities and leading companies, we have a strong network of top-class experts for teaching and research.

With the bachelor's Degree Program in Integrated Safety and Security Management you will learn about security from different perspectives giving you the ability to solve practical challenges with technical, social and economic approaches. With your expertise as an internal/external consultant for risk and security management, you will meet the current requirements for risk and security management positions in large companies and organizations or consulting firms. Embedded in the curriculum is also the possibility to acquire recognized certificates (e.g. process management, quality management, etc.) and professional qualifications (e.g. as security experts, fire protection officers, etc.). In addition to the degree program being part-time, it is also possible to gain credit for your professional activities in order to reduce your workload.

Crisis staff exercise As part of the Crisis Management module integrated in the degree program, the department organizes crisis staff exercises in which students experience the complexity and dynamics of crisis situations first-hand.

In the first and second semester, you will learn basic knowledge in the field of risk, safety and security management, understand statistical correlations and acquire competence in management systems for process, quality and risk management. Based on this, you will then deepen your knowledge of the following topics

    • fire protection,employee protection,
    • security management (physical safety, emergency and crisis management, etc.) and
    • information security.

You will complete your studies with a bachelor's thesis (some examples can be found here) on a topic of your choice. Maybe you want to do research directly in your company or solve a very specific problem in your industry?

The course is designed as a practical work setting in which students can realistically test the central requirements of everyday working life. In binding work phases (onboarding and project work), they work on regular tasks with clear deadlines and receive continuous feedback on quality, diligence and professional implementation. By adhering to formal standards, structured processes and clear roles, a resilient understanding of work and responsibility is established. • Students are able to derive orientation for their further professional behavior from the theory-based reflection of their professional experience and to formulate concrete approaches that can be transferred to comparable situations.

    Teaching method

Reflection is methodically supported by Tavistock-oriented work discussion: professional situations are introduced as short case vignettes, contextualized together (roles, expectations, dynamics) and evaluated in terms of their effect on actions and decisions. In addition, students use reflective journals/learning logs and structured guiding questions to systematically record experiences and make patterns visible over time. Single- and double-loop learning is used not only to evaluate actions, but also to examine and develop the underlying assumptions, rules and values. Peer feedback, collegial case consultation and sensemaking formats ensure a diversity of perspectives and promote a professional language for reflection and the transfer of learning into everyday working life.

In bindingly structured work phases, they continuously work on tasks with clear expectations regarding the quality of deadlines and results and receive ongoing feedback. The work is carried out according to defined processes, roles and quality standards, which builds up professional orientation and responsibility in the work context. Overall, the format supports the development of stable routines and professional action under conditions of commitment, quality standards and efficiency pressure.

    Learning results

    • Students are able to present the central principles of process and quality-oriented organizational understanding (Business Process Orientation) in their basic assumptions, objectives and central concepts and to critically classify their significance and limits for participation in operational processes.

    • Students are able to reflect on their participation in operational processes in a theory-based manner by analyzing and comprehensibly describing their role contribution, the effectiveness of their actions as well as interfaces, rules and quality requirements in the process flow on the basis of process thinking.

    • Students are able to identify and document learning progress from the theory-based reflection of their participation in operational processes and to derive concrete development goals and actionable approaches for further participation in comparable processes.

    After graduation

As a graduate of this program, a wide range of occupational fields and career opportunities are open to you. Find out here where your path can take you.

Security is becoming increasingly important. At the same time, security is shifting more and more away from the public sector to organizations and the private sector (which often organize in cooperation with authorities). The challenges involved are complex, and to provide successful security management, security must be thought along the entire value chain. Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program in Integrated Safety and Security Management are qualified professionals who can analyze, create, implement and communicate concepts, and work as internal risk and security consultants. By obtaining recognized certificates, graduates have an invaluable competitive advantage over other graduates.

The bachelor's program is the foundation for your career in risk and security in the following industries:

    • Multi-utility companies (gas, electricity, water, telecommunications, etc.)

    • Industrial plants

    • Service companies in the fields of insurance and banking; transport, traffic, logistics; security, risk and crisis management; hospital and care facilities; tourism

      • Real estate sector / facility management

      • Public sector (federal, state, local, etc.)

      • Task forces, international organizations and NGOs
