Project Duration: 01.11.2019 to 31.05.2020
Cardbox Packaging GmbH Wolfsberg aims to develop coated cardboard packaging with the following properties: Excellent water resistance and wet strength, food contact suitability, recyclability, compostability, resource efficiency, and low global warming potential. This is intended to serve as a more sustainable alternative to PE-extrusion-coated cardboard.
In the run-up to the project, a special barrier coating system was therefore developed in collaboration with a coating manufacturer, in which good water and grease resistance could already be achieved.
In the course of the project, the suitability of the formulation for the fulfilment of the aforementioned requirements was to be evaluated, test procedures compiled and concepts for the further development of the formulation for food applications created. In addition, resource conservation and ecological sustainability were to be assessed using streamlined LCA.
