A set of inertial measurement sensors, IMU, is used to detect movement. This is compared with a three-dimensional optoelectronic reference system, motion capturing, and is intended to provide information on the suitability of using inertial measurement sensors to assess correct posture. The postures and movements of healthy participants when sitting, standing and lifting a box are recorded and analysed for comparison. A specially constructed armchair with a split backrest is used for the seated assessments in order to make the surface markers visible and to allow the IMU sensors to be positioned freely above the spine.
