Project Duration: 01.08.2013 to 31.07.2016
Bioprocess engineering is a core competence for developing and optimising biotechnological manufacturing processes. It is a long way from discovery and development in the laboratory to an economical production process. A bioindustrial pilot plant at BOKU opens up new possibilities.
As a cooperation partner of the Vienna Institute of BioTechnology (VIBT), the specialist area of Bioengineering has the unique opportunity to use the biotechnological pilot plant at the joint site and to investigate manufacturing processes on a pilot scale. The aim is to study the scalability of biotechnological production processes, evaluate them economically and incorporate the results into teaching and industry. Production processes are developed on a laboratory scale and transferred to a pilot scale. The real simulation of the processes on a pilot plant scale makes it possible to determine deviations in each process step and to develop process parameters for the economic evaluation of the production processes.
