Project Duration: 01.01.2014 to 31.12.2019
The multi-technology company 3M is developing new membranes and depth filtration media for filtration used in the production of biotechnologically manufactured drugs. The latest filter systems and filter inserts are to be evaluated in collaboration with the Bioengineering Department.
Filtration is an essential basic operation in every biotechnological process that is used to clarify and purify biotechnological products as efficiently and economically as possible. It is part of the complex biotechnological manufacturing process: cells are cultivated, active ingredients are produced and many purification steps are carried out. Filtration tests not only scrutinise the performance of the filter, but also its capacity to remove process-related contaminants. The scalability of the production process from laboratory filter to pilot scale is being investigated. The biopharmaceutical production process can be planned economically and safely through pilot-scale test series.
