The portfolio folder is your creative approach to the Bachelor's degree programme in Architecture - Green Building at the University of Applied Sciences Campus Vienna. With the portfolio, you show how you think creatively, plan spatially and deal with architectural topics, regardless of whether you already have Prior knowledge. Specifications

The portfolio folder should reflect a targeted examination of the personal ideas of the Bachelor's degree programme in Architecture - Green Building and, in addition to a letter of motivation, includes high-quality drawings and representations of exterior and interior spaces. The focus is on a graphic exploration of spatial and functional contexts, not on the mere sketching of interior and exterior spaces. Graphic concept explanations (e.g. materiality, accessibility, transitions such as staircases, visual relationships) and sketches/analyses are expressly welcome.

The portfolio folder uploaded during the online application must be printed out and bound (= no loose sheets, instead loose-leaf binder, ring binding, adhesive binding or similar) and brought to the personal admission interview on the day of admission.

About the 3 projects

Project 1

Public open space
including squares, streets, leisure facilities, promenades, riverside areas and other recreational areas

Task: Describe a public open space that you like to visit or that has a special feature. Show the qualities and characteristics of the place (e.g. materiality, colours, quality of stay, paths/transitions, visual relationships, accessibility).

Project 2

Public interior
e.g. pubs, libraries, universities, banks, market halls

Task: Visualise spatial qualities (light, proportions, materiality, orientation, accessibility, viewing angle).

Project 3

Chair/armchair

Task: Choose a chair or armchair and depict it in plan, in two elevations and spatially (perspective or axonometry). Proportions, construction and materiality should be emphasised.


Other information

  • The techniques (including pencil, ink, watercolor) can be chosen freely and should be used as diversely as possible.
  • However, the portfolio must contain at least one freehand drawing. Photographs of appropriate quality are permitted, but may not be used for more than one project.
  • AI software is generally prohibited!
  • CAD plans/technical plans are not permitted. Hand-drawn floor plans/sections are permitted as graphic concept explanations for the main presentation.
  • Projects that have been created as part of a paid or unpaid employment relationship must be approved by the employer with confirmation that the project was created independently by the applicant.

Exclusion criteria

Your portfolio folder must meet the requirements. If you fail to do so, you will be excluded from the admission procedure and will not be admitted to the admission day! This also applies to inadequate submissions that make it impossible to assess the content.

In the Portfolio Course at the University of Applied Sciences Campus Vienna, you will receive practical support in creating your portfolio. Together with experienced lecturers, you will develop creative ideas, work on design tasks and receive valuable feedback on your work. The course helps you to make your design skills visible - and to start your studies with a strong portfolio.
