The "Smart living for generations" demonstration project is located in the context of the topics of the growing city, age-appropriate living, the need for renovation in subsidised housing from the 1970s, climate and energy challenges and resident participation. Specifically, transformation processes in a Viennese residential complex from the 1970s are accompanied by innovative bundles of measures to create added value for residents and the neighbourhood.
Duration: 1 June 2018 to 30 November 2021
A redensification in the form of an additional residential building is planned for the area of the complex, which also offers a great deal of potential for modernising the housing and living environment for the existing tenants. The project follows a modernisation concept that was developed in a participatory manner with the residents in an exploratory project that has already been completed and has taken their needs into account. A particular focus is on the age- and generation-appropriate design of the project as well as the further sensitive monitoring of the transformation processes through communication and participation for the residents.
The demonstration project comprises various bundles of measures that combine social, technological, structural and climate and energy-related aspects, thus enabling innovations and new insights for the context under consideration. The Competence Center for Social Work is responsible for the accompanying research in this demonstration project of Caritas Vienna, Stadtteilarbeit and the housing association "SCHWARZATAL", in particular with regard to the communication and participation processes in the planned transformations.
FFG, Smart Cities Demo - 9th call for proposals. A funding programme of the Climate and Energy Fund.
