Project Duration: 15.5.2015 to 31.1.2016
Seestadt is a newly emerging urban district and one of the largest urban development areas in Europe. By 2030, around 20,000 people will live and just as many will work there. This study ensures the accompanying monitoring of this settlement, which will take place in several phases.
Settlement of the first construction phase of the district began in 2014. Over 6,000 residents have already moved in. Various companies have settled here. This is the first time in Vienna that the settlement process of a new urban area has been scientifically monitored on an empirical basis. The aim is to identify the associated challenges at an early stage and to be able to assess social dynamics with regard to residential milieus, living environment, social space and neighbourhood. The study will serve as a scientifically sound basis for shaping the future settlement process in the Urban Lakeside and will be used for other urban development areas.
