A major wave of retirements is on the horizon in the public sector. Since it is of central importance for the core processes of public administration organizations to preserve employees’ knowledge before they leave, Department III/9 of the Federal Chancellery, in collaboration with an interministerial working group, developed the “Federal Knowledge Management Strategy” in 2012—and was also tasked with developing a supplementary guide (accompanied by an application-oriented toolbox). This guide, to which the Public Management program at Hochschule Campus Wien contributed, was published in May 2017.
The implementation of the guideline is to be supplemented by a series of events entitled "Knowledge Management Platform" under the motto "Discuss findings and developments - develop methods and instruments - learn from and with each other". The platform creates a discussion framework for applied knowledge management in and outside the federal administration and promotes its science-based and practical further development. During the platform meeting, representatives from science and practice provide information on solutions to problems and strategies for the introduction and further development of knowledge management that have proven themselves at both national and international level.
The Knowledge Management Platform is supported by the co-operation of three partner institutions: Federal Chancellery, Federal Academy of Administration and FH Campus Wien. The Public Management study programs at FH Campus Wien provide scientific input and discussion on the main topics of the events.
