Sustainable network for agrofood loss and waste prevention, management, quantification and valorisation

Hochschule Campus Wien, University of Applied Sciences, Vienna contributes to the international COST FoodWaStop project. The FoodWaStop COST project (Sustainable Network for agrofood loss and waste prevention, management, quantification and valorisation) aims to tackle these challenges by:

1. creating an interdisciplinary, multi-actor European network that will collaborate with non-EU Mediterranean countries to expand knowledge on FLW beyond current limits;
2. assessing FLW occurrence at critical points in the fruit and vegetable supply chain;
3. encouraging technological innovations and sustainable strategies to reduce and prevent FLW; and
4. promoting the valorization of agro-food waste to support a circular bio-economy. The experience of the coordinators and participants as well as insights from diverse EU and non-EU nations, will enhance awareness of FLW, assess its impact, and explore management strategies through innovative technologies. It will also define best practices to prevent FLW.

The FoodWaStop Network will benefit a wide range of stakeholders, including all actors in the agro-food value chain, from farmers to consumers. Additionally, the project will develop a knowledge platform to foster innovation, offer guidelines, and facilitate dialogue with policymakers, focusing on the social and economic consequences of FLW.
