As part of the "ways2gether" research project, new tools and technologies are being tested that support citizen participation in transport planning and design processes. Using augmented reality, citizens can use a tablet to get a better picture of transport facilities that are being built or designed and then post their opinions.
Project Duration: 1.2.2011 to 31.1.2013
For example, citizens could not only view a completed pedestrian zone, but also move around in it virtually. In this way, a redesign is already "tangible" in the planning phase. Web 2.0 also makes it easier to share opinions immediately after gaining impressions. It was also analysed whether more citizens are reached through the use of augmented reality and Web 2.0 than through conventional approaches to citizen participation. It was found that tech-savvy and younger people in particular can be involved more easily.
