Home nursing is becoming increasingly important in Austria. In order for students and new employees in the healthcare and nursing sector to remain healthy and satisfied in their jobs in the long term, structured, health-promoting onboarding is needed.
This is where the Health-Promoting Practice Mentoring project comes in: it combines scientific expertise with nursing practice and creates innovative approaches to support new entrants to the profession.
The focus is on three target groups: healthcare and nursing students, home health care workers and practice mentors. Needs-based digital training content is being developed for them, which can be used anytime, anywhere via an existing learning platform. The content ranges from health promotion and health literacy to practical tools for working in mobile long-term care. In addition, workshops are offered for practice mentors to strengthen communication skills, evidence-based nursing, and assessment skills.
Scientific support from the University of Applied Sciences Campus Wien ensures that needs are identified and impact and benefits are evaluated. This reveals how digital learning content and mentoring contribute to improving personal and professional health literacy. As project manager, Volkshilfe Wien ensures implementation in home nursing care and the integration of the results into daily work.
In the long term, the project will strengthen the attractiveness of the profession, support the retention of nursing staff, and improve the quality of training. With its focus on health promotion, digitalization, and sustainability, practical mentoring contributes to the future of nursing and the care of older people in Vienna.
