The "City of Vienna Competence Team for Safety Network Engineering (SNET)" specialises in the development of systems that are used in safety-relevant environments. The aim was to advance the realisation of safety-relevant systems on the basis of sound research and development and to make this knowledge available to industry and business. At the same time, this knowledge was integrated into teaching at FH Campus Wien.

Technical systems are becoming increasingly complex due to their high degree of innovation. Embedding these systems in existing networks and overall systems is becoming a major challenge. The potential dangers posed by such systems should be minimised. The aim of the "City of Vienna Competence Team for Safety Network Engineering (SNET)" was to drive forward the technical realisation of such safety-relevant systems. The project focussed on the design of safety-certified solutions and implemented a SIL2 VoIP client to demonstrate feasibility. An existing VoIP platform was transferred to the safety-relevant area (fulfilment of Safety Integrity Level 2 in accordance with IEC 61508) and safety-compliant networks and overall systems were designed. Both teaching at FH Campus Wien and industry utilise the knowledge of the competence team.
Since 1 August 2020, five interdisciplinary research areas have replaced existing research fields.
