The Professional English I course is all about communicating: communicating science and technology, communicating in English... which means we will be discussing, presenting and reflecting upon current topics relevant for packaging technologists.

Topics will be chosen which align with the aims of the degree programme and by working closely with other lecturers will complement the content of courses running in parallel.

The students work at their own speed to acquire scientific knowledge depending on previous experience and expertise, and also depending on personal interest.

In addition to deepening knowledge of specific topics, through group work students acquire additional competences such as social, linguistic, discussion and presentations skills.

Additionally, they gain experience of working in international and interdisciplinary groups.

The Professional English II course consolidates and extends the knowledge and skills relevant for sustainable packaging technologists from the previous Professional English I course.

- Arbeitsaufträge: die Studierenden arbeiten Fragenkataloge aus, deren Inhalte im Rahmen von Zwischenprüfungen abgeprüft und im Anschluss bei Unklarheiten besprochen werden.

- Einzelarbeit: Die Studierenden bearbeiten ein von ihnen gewähltes Thema. Dies dient einerseits zum vertieften Wissenserwerb in einem speziellen Gebiet, und andererseits erlernen sie dabei das Verfassen einer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit.

- Erstellung einer Posterpräsentation: Die Studierenden stellen die Ergebnisse ihrer Arbeit in Form eines Posters dar. Dadurch kann das Thema der gesamten Gruppe zugänglich gemacht werden, sowie zu Diskussionen angeregt werden.

Modulprüfung

Die ILV wird durch formatives Assessment bewertet. Durch die Vergabe von Punkten bereits während der Lehrveranstaltung und nicht erst am Ende in Form einer Abschlussprüfung ergeben sich mehrere Vorteile:

• Der Workload verteilt sich regelmäßig über das Semester.

• Die Beurteilung stellt keine Momentaufnahme dar.

• Lehrmethoden können bei Bedarf noch verändert und angepasst werden.

Didaktische Setting - Präsenz- und Onlinephase: 24 Lehreinheiten Präsenz, 100 h Fernlehre

Darbietende Methoden: Vortrag zur Vermittlung von Grundlagen

Erarbeitende Methoden:

- Arbeitsaufträge: die Studierenden arbeiten Arbeitsaufgaben aus, die über Moodle abgegeben und bewertet werden. Das Feedback erfolgt ebenso über Moodle.

- Teamarbeit: Neben der Erarbeitung eines speziellen Themas und dem Anwenden von Gelerntem erwerben die Studierenden beim Arbeiten in der Gruppe überfachliche Kompetenzen wie z.B. social skills, Medien-Didaktik-Kompetenz und sprachliche Kompetenz. Die Studierenden machen sich mit dem Leitfaden für Seminararbeiten vertraut und erlernen das Verfassen einer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit.

- Erstellung einer Power Point Präsentation zur Einzelarbeit: Die Studierenden stellen die Ergebnisse ihrer Einzelarbeit in Form einer Power Point Präsentation dar. Dadurch kann das Thema der gesamten Gruppe zugänglich gemacht werden, sowie zu Diskussionen angeregt werden.

- Studierendendiskussion: Die Studierenden diskutieren in Kleingruppen relevante Trends in der Verpackungswirtschaft.

Immanente Leistungsüberprüfung

Im Detail wird die ILV durch folgende Teilleistungsbeurteilungen bewertet:

– Template zur Gestaltung wissenschaftlicher Seminararbeiten (5 Punkte)

Die Gesamtbeurteilung aller Teilleistungen werden von der LV-Leitung in Moodle kommuniziert. Die maximal erreichbare Anzahl für die Gesamtbeurteilung aller Teilleistungen beträgt 100 Punkte.
