Vienna Health Promotion (Wiener Gesundheitsförderung – WiG) is implementing “Staying Safe and Healthy in Vienna” (“Sicher gesund in Wien”) a context-oriented fall prevention project for senior citizens funded by the Vienna Provincial Health Promotion Fund (Wiener Landesgesundheitsförderungsfonds). The project leverages synergies with behavior-oriented initiatives offered by the Austrian social security system and pays particular attention to the needs of people with dementia. The University of Applied Sciences Campus Wien accompanies the project with a process and outcome evaluation. This supports ongoing implementation through systematic feedback and analyzes effectiveness, target group reach, acceptance, good practices, and the transferability of key measures.
The evaluation has two main objectives:
The overarching objectives are the evidence-based continued development of context-oriented fall prevention, capacity building for professionals, dementia-sensitive design of services, intersectoral cooperation, and the alignment of the results to the strategic objectives of the City of Vienna.
The evaluation comprises qualitative and quantitative methods: goal-setting workshops for participatory development of objectives and indicators, guided interviews, participant observation, and the evaluation of usage data. In addition, quantitative surveys and an examination of publicity materials will be carried out. Data analysis is carried out using established qualitative and quantitative methods; the results are continuously processed in feedback, performance reports, and a final report.
The evaluation is expected to provide insights into the effectiveness and achievement of objectives, strengths and potential for improvement in implementation, dementia-sensitive design, user perspectives, and the acceptance of digital services. In addition, concrete recommendations for action, good practices, and a mapping of the results to the strategic goals of the City of Vienna will be developed. The results will form the basis for a possible continuation of the project from 2027 onwards and for the further development of health-promoting services for older people.
